"The Solent" (1920), etching and drypoint, 6 7/8" x 9 3/4", on thin wove paper with full margins, signed by the artist in pencil lower right, titled in pencil, lower center margin, edition 94, in fine condition [Dodgson supp. 374].

Sir Muirhead Bone (1876-1953) was born in Glasgow and studied at the Glasgow School of Art. He was considered a master of etching and drypoint from the time of his first publication, Etchings in Glasgow (1899). He is most noted for his architectural and landscape work; rarely is the human figure more than an incidental feature in his compositions.  Many of his works contain high panoramas and long vistas. Bones' work is known for its proficiency in the impression of meticulous detail without ever becoming labored.

Bones' "The Solent" is in a 22 3/8" x 19 1/2" traditionally grooved frame with a 3/4" soft gray brown to black burl panel with gold lip.   The half-rounded brown over umber wood fillet echoes the frame. The sawdust denim mat is acid and lignin free and are protected with Acrylite-AR OP3 (UV) by CYRO ...... SOLD
