"Le Visage d'Israel, from Dessins pour la Bible", 1960.  Lithograph in colors on Arches paper, signed in pencil and numbered (aside from the book edition); image size 358x273mm; 14 1/8" x 10 3/4"; sheet size 524x381mm; 20 5/8" x 15".  Published/printed by Verve/Mourlot, Paris. With full margins. A very good impression [Mourlot 231; C. bk 42].

Marc Chagall (1887-1985), was a Russian-born (Vitebsk, today Belarus, Russia), French painter distinguished for his Surrealist creations.  He is one of the most recognized and influential artists of the 20th century. Chagall had a lifelong fascination with works on paper and post particularly with the technical demands of etching on lithography.  His works treat subjects with humor and fantasy that drew deeply on the unconscious. Chagall's unique imagery is suffused with exquisite poetic inspiration derived from Russian Expressionism and French Cubism.

"The "Le Visage d'Israel" is in a 737x619mm; 29" x 24 3/8" Larson-Juhl 'Cortez' Spanish-styled beaded bronze frame, with matching fillet. The outer dark cream and inner burnt orange mats are backed with 4-ply cream rag and are acid and lignin free and protected with Acrylite-AR OP3 (UV) by CYRO ...... SOLD
